Trimmer, Sarah
(1741–1810)
   Educator.
   Trimmer was born Sarah Kirby in Ipswich, England, and as a young woman she was an acquaintance of Dr johnson. After her marriage in 1762, she settled in Brentford and she was the mother of twelve children. She is remembered as an important figure in the Sunday School movement, which had been pioneered by Robert raikes. She was the author of a great many improving books, mainly designed for the instruction of the poor. In particular, The History of the Robins went through many editions.
